"Keep track of golf handicap and stats"

Overview

Not sure what exactly you should work on to improve your golf game? APT Golf is here to track scores and statistics that will help you decide your next moves and give you an overall idea about current and past games. It records all kinds of information, like putts, fairways hit, greens in regulation and many others. In addition, you can create many profiles for different golfers and assign them to teams. Last but not least, it has a database that includes over 9000 courses in U.S. and Canada.

Installation

The installation package is very small even though it includes a lot of data. The setup process is very simple and quick, with standard steps. It’s not packed with any 3rd party software so you don’t have to worry about that.

The supported operating systems are Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7.

Interface

The main window is has an old, classic Windows look. When you open the program you will see a few tabs on top (Rounds, Golfers, Handicaps, Courses, and Statistics). From each one of them you can navigate to areas concerning different statistics. For example, in the Golfers tab you can create a golfer, then from the Courses tab you can create courses or copy them from the online database and finally from the Rounds tab you can view detailed stats of the current game. Below the tabs and their options is the main screen which shows some general information about the leaderboard.

Pros

You can manage any number of golfers, with each one having his own statistics and handicap. Afterwards you can assign them to teams to keep better track of them. If you don’t want to enter the score for every hole you can avoid doing so and just enter the total score to save time. Also, you can calculate handicaps using USGA rules, with the choice to use two more handicap options if you want to include more rounds sooner than the USGA standard formula. Moreover, there are plenty of statistics that the program keeps track of, so that you think about your skills closely.

Cons

The only con is that it supports only 18 hole rounds, so you can’t save statistics for game with 9 hole rounds.

Alternatives

StatDoctor is a golf statistics and handicap tracking software built to help you improve your abilities. Apart from the basic information that you can input, it allows you to enter any mistakes you made during the round, such as slicing your drive or failing to get out of a bunker. This way you can have a more accurate report about your performance and what you should concentrate on. GStat Pro is a similar shareware with which you can track handicaps, analyze scores, run your own leagues, chart your entire game and work on your weaknesses.

Conclusion

There’s always space for skill improvement, and APT Golf provides you with many options to make a precise evaluation of your game’s status and decrease chances of failure. Although it lacks an attractive graphical appearance, it proved to be quite helpful and easy to use. If you are hesitating about buying it, the trial version will convince you.
