The U2 frontman expects that the new music format could be irresistible for people to become involved in it and music lovers who will enjoy using it. The activist has been concerned recently that whilst popular music groups and singers can perform on live tours and still generate significant revenues from tour tickets and merchandise, the song writers and other create people involved with the music industry cannot enjoy the same revenue generating opportunities; their fortunes are more directly connected to song and album sales for the royalties.

The information about a new digital standard from Apple and U2 comes on the back of a questionable move to add their latest album to the cloud accounts of all Apple iTunes subscribers whether they liked or wanted it, or not. U2 were paid by Apple for this. The lack of agreement and opt-in was not welcomed by all users who went on Twitter to complain about not being given a choice.
