Windows 10 hasn't even had its official release to the public yet but technology enthusiasts are already keen to make their current Windows operating system look a little bit more presentable. It is only fitting therefore that the good people at windowsxlive.net have released their first public build of their Windows 10 Transformation Pack.

If you don't want to try the Windows 10 Technical Preview then this might be an interesting alternative.

Change Your Windows UI

Whether you have an older Windows version like XP, Vista or 7 or are rocking the latest 8 or 8.1 already, or you're slick and are using a Windows Server edition, this transformation pack will do wonders for your desktop's appearance.

The installation process is designed to be simple and seamless. There is also a convenient uninstall option to completely remove all the cosmetic Windows 10 appearance changes to return your version of Windows back to you.

Metro UI Design Tweaks

The new look has a Metro UI design which can be configured just using a single click to make quick changes. The system resources also have a Metro UI overhaul and behave like Windows 10.

Major Features

System files are now more intelligent and fix themselves when needed. Windows Update also is unobstructed and works with the Windows 10 Transformation Pack. The Windows 10 wallpaper, themes and login screen customizations are also present.

Memory patching is provided which permits system files loaded into memory to be altered in order to facilitate changing Windows themes and overall appearance. Virtual desktop functions too. The Start menu is back (for users with Windows 8 or 8.1) and has wide Metro UI support. Gadgets are also there and have a Metro UI emulation effect when shows on the desktop. Aero is also supported for cool desktop looks.

Early Build

The Windows 10 Transformation pack is an early build of an interesting project. It is suggested by the developers that more will be added as the product matures. It is not perfect. The Start menu is not quite like it is in Windows 10 and there are a few other aspects that are not exact replicas of the upcoming operating system from Microsoft but it's a pretty good approximation of it nonetheless.

One point of note: Transformation packs sometimes make some fundamental changes to a Windows system. Because of this, it is suggested that a System Restore Point is created prior to installation of the Windows 10 Transformation Pack. A personal backup of key data or the whole Windows installation wouldn't be a bad idea either before installation the package.
