Overview
This is a simple and perfect little program designed to help you delete files. There are occasions when you seem to be locked out of files and unable to delete them. You know the kinds of messages "Cannot delete folder: It is being used by another person or program" and you know very well that it is not in use at all. Well, with the help of Unlocker, you can eradicate this problem instantly. Simply right click on the file, choose Unlocker and unlock. That's it - all done in the blink of an eye, first time every time!
Installation
Installation of Unlocker onto your computer is quick and simple without using a lot of memory. This really is an easy program that you will find yourself using time and time again – addictive! Not only will it help delete files but it will also help to move and rename files too. An assistant is there to offer help with file actions if needed.
Interface
It has an accessible interface giving all the information you need with a clean look. No complicated menus or formats to follow. Navigation wise, this interface doesn't trip its users so thumbs up here for it.
Pros
Unlocker automatically lists all operations preventing the removal or deletion of a file. You don't really need to understand it. Just simply click “unlock” to all options prevented and the file can be worked with. You can also try the program on a file that is not locked; it will tell you that it is not locked and will then present you with the actions you can undertake, such as delete, move or rename the file. Unlocker also provides an assistant if you need one to help choose the right action. To be fair, the assistant is not actually needed but it is a good option for those who are less familiar with computer applications. It’s very low on resources makes this a bonus as it runs along quietly in the background and the assistant is only visible as a small icon in the system tray.
Cons
There seems to be a little problem with running this program on Windows Vista. Also, it may be initially identified as spyware or malware by your computer’s protection when you first try to download it.
Alternatives
There are some alternatives to Unlocker such as Process Explorer, but Unlocker is far superior and covers all application rather than the limited options offered by the other programs. In fact in comparison to some paid programs such as 12Ghosts Wash, Unlocker is superior in its action of deleting, renaming and moving files. Whilst it may not have a wide variety of functions, Unlocker has everything you need for a simple process killer at the time you need it.
Conclusion
For a free program you can do no better than Unlocker for all your deleting file options. It quickly and easily locates the problem and just one click can unlock the file so you can perform your action on it. No waiting, finding, rooting through the computer to try to locate any other process that may be using the file. Just point and click. If only everything in life was so simple!
