"Comfortable renamer for numerous files"
EF Multi File Renamer batch file renaming package for Windows comes with some impressive features. The package supports a range of renaming rules which lend added flexibility with a dedicated renaming tool like this. The rules for renaming can be used together, in a user's specified sequence, in order to get the desired result from the software package. This lends a great deal of granular control to batch renaming tasks.
The multiple file renaming software is capable of renaming the files selected, all the files in a given folder, and all the sub folders that fall beneath the main folder as well. This iterative approach can therefore end up renaming thousands of files through many folder levels deep using carefully selected renaming rules.
The extensive set of rules that come pre-defined with the software can each be adjusted with their own settings. Rules can also be repeated more than once, i.e. apply rule 1, then rule 2, followed by rule 1 again, all selected by the user. Rules can also be changed and saved to be used again another time. A real-time preview displays what the outcome will be on the file names when a given set of rules has been selected before the user goes ahead with the renaming process. This helps to avoid unfortunate mistakes.
The installation completes without any issues. A 32-bit or 64-bit Windows operating system is required (the developer doesn't specify exactly what Windows versions are supported). There was no malicious software included with the installation.
There is an online registration prompt window that appears after the program has been launched.
The interface is fairly typical of a file utility. Top-line menus are shown with small toolbar icon buttons beneath. Most of the toolbar buttons are self-explanatory but they also have tooltips that appear when hovering the mouse over them.
A drive and folder tree is shown in the left pane. To the right is the rules that have been selected. Below this is the information for files which has the following columns: Old name, New name, Size, Modified, Attributes, Type, and Path.
The user simply navigates to the folder with the files that they wish to rename, select either the folder or the files, then choose the rules that they wish to apply. The rules preview will indicate how the file names will look post-renaming.
