Zones monitor all incomming & outgoing activity on your computer & alert you when a new application attempts to access the Internet. When other programs or processes attempt to access your Internet connection attempting to use your Internet connection to communicate with the outside world, a window pops up that prompts you to permit or deny access on a per-application basis thus protecting you from incoming as well as outgoing traffic to ensure that only legitimate traffic is allowed, & alerts you to attempted intrusions & protects you from any local applications too preventing worms, Trojan horses & spyware programs from hurting your computer. If an unknown outside source attempts a connection to your computer, a pop-up window alerts you to the intrusion & again prompts you to choose whether to grant access. The Application Control allows you to decide which applications can & cannot use the Internet.
