avast! celebrates 50,000,000th Registered User
Prague, Czech Republic - 5th March 2008 - for immediate release – ALWIL Software a.s. is pleased to announce the registration of the fifty millionth (50,000,000th) user of the multi-award winning avast! Antivirus.
Commenting on reaching this milestone, Eduard Kucera, ALWIL Software a.s. joint founder and CEO said, "This is a major achievement for all of the hardworking team at ALWIL Software, showing that dedication to offering a best-in-class antivirus can pay off both for us as a team, and for our user base. With fifty million concurrent users of avast!, we can demonstrate that we are doing our job well, and our users agree." Mr. Kucera continues, "However, we are not resting or complacent in our approach to malware protection - in the soon to be released version 4.8 of avast! Antivirus, we have added anti-spyware capability, certified by West Coast Labs Checkmark certification process and anti-rootkit protection, as well as very strong self-protection of the product itself.

The first avast! Antivirus registration took place in January 2002, with the 40 millionth registration in October 2007.

Home Edition is available free-of-charge for non-commercial home use, and is available for download from avast.com and download.com, and can be used free when you register, online at avast.com. avast! Professional Edition can be used in both home and commercial settings, and also forms part of the avast! Professional Family Pack, available for up to ten users (and one Windows Home Server). Both are available to download, trial and purchase on the avast.com website or from any authorized avast! reseller.
