Wearable Computing Patent Turns Science Fiction into Science Fashion
California-based ePoet, LLC, announced today the issuance of a new United States patent to inventor and wearable computing pioneer Shelley Harrison. The patent discloses Harrison's wrist-wearable credit card terminal / point-of-sale ("POS") terminal and related technologies, including wrist-wearable mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, bar-code scanners, digital cameras, audio recorders, remote controls, and more.
Los Angeles, CA August 18, 2003 -- California-based ePoet(R), LLC, announced today the issuance of the latest United States patent to inventor and wearable computing pioneer Shelley Harrison. The patent discloses a wrist-wearable credit card terminal / point-of-sale ("POS") terminal and numerous related technologies, including wrist-wearable mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, bar-code scanners, digital cameras, audio recorders, remote controls, and more.
"This technology brings modern businesses one step closer to a completely hands-free computing environment," a company spokesperson said in response to the patent issuance.
The announcement comes as the latest development in an extensive career. Harrison first began working on a PDA called the SunScroll(TM) in 1990. These efforts culminated in his 1995 founding of Orang-Otang(R) Computers, the manufacturer of the award-winning Peel-It(R) PDA case, and Wearable Computing(R), the industry's Web portal.
Patent licensing will be handled by ePoet, which has an intellectual property portfolio that also includes other patented and patent-pending technologies, such as:
Kaleidosound(TM) Guitar Effects Controller. The Kaleidosound controller allows a guitarist to change the level of his instrument volume or another effect, such as distortion, stereo panning, or delay, simply by turning his guitar to the left or the right.
DooDock(TM) Guitar Docking Station. The DooDock guitar stand provides a contact point through which powered components of a guitar, such as an active pickup, can be recharged automatically when the guitar is not in use. A built-in power strip and/or patchbay may also be included.
BarChrome(TM) Automotive Components and Accessories. The BarChrome color-to-number system provides an improved odometer that serves as a bar-code. A separate BarChrome-enabled product provides an improved license plate that can be read at distances far greater than a standard license plate.
SunDow(TM) Solar Energy Collector. The SunDow mounts in a window like an air conditioner, thereby providing a solar-powered battery charger and other components which can be used by residents of multistory dwellings.
CarpaCare(TM) Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) Therapy Device. The CarpaCare splint immobilizes a user's wrist by grasping only the user's fingers, thereby avoiding any pressure on the carpal tunnel region.
