Visual Integrity announces availability of pdf2cad v8, a major update for popular tool that extracts editable CAD drawings from PDF files.

Norwalk CT - January 18, 2010 - Today, Visual Integrity announced availability of pdf2cad v8. This major update of the company's popular tool that converts PDF files into editable CAD drawings, adds significant features. Included in the update are options to separate drawing layers based on color, line widths and other attributes as well as the ability to consolidate a multi-page PDF file into a single CAD drawing. It produces two standard interchange formats, DXF and HPGL, which can be opened in popular applications, such as AutoCAD and Microstation, and then saved in native formats DWG and DGN.

pdf2cad extracts editable objects and text directly from source data in the vector PDF files. Vector PDF files are generated by applications and contain a rich, mathematical bundle of data which pdf2cad interprets and renders. Vector-to-vector conversion delivers both accuracy and fidelity free from the compromises necessary when manually redrawing or performing raster-to-vector tracing on scanned drawings.

Knowing which type of PDF file you have, and using the correct tool, is essential. According to Jean Haney, co-founder of Visual Integrity, once you draw the distinction between the two types of PDF files - vector and raster - your can choose the best tool. Magnifying, or simply clicking on any PDF when open on-screen, will quickly establish its type.

"Vector PDF files are defined mathematically and render on screen and in print at any size as sharp, smooth, scalable objects and text. They can accurately be converted into fully editable CAD objects using pdf2cad.", said Haney.

"Raster PDF files, such as scanned technical drawings, are different. Because the file is reduced to a flat bitmap image, it looks jaggy when you zoom in on it. The only choice is to manually redraw the file or use an automatic raster-to-vector converter like Scan2CAD Pro", said Haney, adding, "It's vital to know what type of PDF file you have and then use the right tool for the job to get optimal results".

Pricing and Availability
pdf2cad v8 is available now and costs $195. The upgrade price for users of previous versions is $79. Free upgrades have been offered to customers who purchased v7 in the past 90 days and to subscribers of Advantage Support, the company's annual update and support service.
