The set includes the Mega Lab Series, a detailed lab book with instructional video, and the Audio Training Series, which allows portable versatility for studying outside of the classroom setting. As an instructor at various facilities, I felt that students were being cheated out of the training they needed to achieve certification, says Scott Skinger, owner of Train Signal, Inc. I continually developed my own scenarios and labs to offer students more in-depth information.
The Mega Lab Series, which starts at $29.95, combines scenarios, diagrams, screen shots, and photos with detailed instructions. I wasted over $10,000 on MCSE classes at a local facility, says Nolan Dow, former MCSE student in Texas. I was presented with an overhead projector of boring textbook lessons with only two labs the entire course. The series that Train Signal offers brings the students mastery of skills to a higher level because it goes beyond theoretical situations. Todays IT students have it tough, explains Skinger. Theyre often promised high salaries with certification, but gain no knowledge of how the applications work in a real world setting. We recognize that when students comprehend advanced concepts, certification becomes a byproduct of their success.
Skinger developed the Audio Training Series as a way of helping students prepare for their exams without being confined to a classroom. The series, which starts at $44.95 for four CDs, explains each lecture in great detail, while giving students flexibility to multi-task while they learn. Current titles in the Mega Lab Series include Building a Web Server, Implementing DNS & Configuring Active Directory, among others. The Audio Training Series will soon add Cisco and security titles as well.
