SolarWinds Announces New Network Device Monitoring Free Tool

AUSTIN, TX - April 6, 2010 - SolarWinds (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software to more than 90,000 customers worldwide, announced today its latest free tool, SolarWinds Network Device Monitor (NDM) , which is designed to make it easy for IT professionals to monitor the real-time performance and health of network devices from the convenience of their desktop.
With the Network Device Monitor, users can monitor virtually any SNMP-enabled network device - statistics can be monitored on Cisco, HP Procurve, Delland Juniper devices or even little-known object identifiers (OIDs) such as CPU speed, battery status or fan temperature. To save users even more time, SolarWinds has integrated the Content Exchange on thwack, SolarWinds' online community, into NDM so users never have to leave the tool to take advantage of community-created content. Users can browse the extensive library of monitoring templates during the setup process, or upload a custom template.
"Knowing which key health statistics to monitor on your newly added or key network devices can be overwhelming and time-consuming. With NDM, IT pros don't have to rely on trial and error, they can leverage community forums and resources to see what others are monitoring and what device statistics experienced users deem most important," said Josh Stephens, SolarWinds' Head Geek and Vice President of Technology. "Additionally, because the monitoring templates are shared between Orion and the new NDM free tool, free tool users can benefit from the knowledge and experience of the thousands of network managers using Orion."
Users also have the ability to choose from pre-built device monitors shipped with NDM, custom device monitors created from NDM's Management Information Base (MIB) database or compile a custom MIB with NDM's Custom MIB Compiler.
