SMC Speeds-Up Wireless 802.11g ProductsOffering Highest Speed and Throughput on the Market with New PRISM Nitro XM Technology
IRVINE, CA February 1 2004--SMC Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the Enterprise, the SMB and all the way home, today announced that all of its 802.11g networking products for home and business will incorporate new technology that speeds connections and expands network capacity. Beginning in Q1, 2004, SMCs 802.11g Barricade g Wireless Routers and EZ Connect g Wireless Adapters will begin shipping with GlobespanViratas (NASDAQ: GSPN) PRISM Nitro XM Xtreme Multimedia performance-enhancing technology. The firmware upgrade will be incorporated into SMCs 802.11g wireless networking products, and will also be available for download to upgrade 802.11g products already in the field at www.smc.com. Upgrades are free, and prices of SMCs 802.11g networking products will not be affected by the upgrade.
At a blazing 140Mbps, SMCs upgraded 802.11g networking products offer the fastest wireless throughput possible in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz space. Fast enough to handle streaming video, multimedia and all other bandwidth-intensive applications, SMCs performance-enhanced G family of products provide instant, seamless high-speed network connection for wireless clients that expands network capacity, and remains interoperable with any wireless LAN. Included in the PRISM Nitro XM upgrade, GlobespanViratas PRISM DirectLink technology lets clients bypass access points to communicate directly via a secure point-to-point link, further accelerating communication and eliminating problems with obstacles and distance from the access point. Even at 40-times the data rate of 802.11b WLANs, SMCs wireless G products with PRISM Nitro XM technology are fully-compliant with IEEE standards, to operate within any 802.11a, b, g or 802.11g network.

SMCs line of 802.11g wireless networking products will incorporate PRISM Nitro XM technology in the first quarter of this year. Customers who have previously purchased SMCs 802.11g products can download the firmware upgrade from www.smc.com.
