As President of Nokia Corporation, Pekka Ala-Pietilä has a broad range of responsibilities including identifying strategic new business ideas and long-term growth opportunities that sustain Nokia's product and business development. As head of Nokia Ventures Organization, Pekka's role also extends to spearheading the development and innovative surveying of new businesses, ensuring Nokia continues to invest its resources into mobile communications solutions of the future.

In 1998 he was named Executive Vice President of the Nokia Group and Deputy to Jorma Ollila, President and Chief Executive Officer. Pekka joined Nokia in 1984 and held a variety of positions in Nokia Data before moving to Nokia Mobile Phones in 1988. In 1990 he was promoted to Vice president, Strategic Planning, Nokia Mobile Phones, and took the helm as President, Nokia Mobile Phones, two years later. He has been a member of the Group Executive Board of Nokia since 1992.
