PACIFIC IMAGE ELECTRONICS INCORPORATES APPLIED SCIENCE FICTION™ DIGITAL ICE3™ TECHNOLOGY INTO NEWEST FILM SCANNER

Pacific Image Electronics announces that it will incorporate Applied Science Fiction's groundbreaking Digital ICE3 suite into its newest film scanner, the PF3650PRO3, enabling photographers, graphic artists, publishers and consumers to make clear, sharp scanned image files from original 35mm color negatives and slides. Digital ICE™ improves the scanned image, even if there are scratches or dust on the film, the original color has faded or the images are grainy, without compromising the clarity, color or quality of the original image.

Las Vegas, NV....Pacific Image Electronics announces that it will incorporate Applied Science Fiction's groundbreaking Digital ICE3 suite into its newest film scanner, the PF3650PRO3, enabling photographers, graphic artists, publishers and consumers to make clear, sharp scanned image files from original 35mm color negatives and slides. Digital ICE™ improves the scanned image, even if there are scratches or dust on the film, the original color has faded or the images are grainy, without compromising the clarity, color or quality of the original image.

Digital ICETM eliminates the effects of scratches, dust, fingerprints, and even mold when scanning negatives or positive slides. Unlike competitive technologies, Digital ICE does not remove the detail content of the image.

The incorporation of Digital ICE3 into the PF3650PRO3 film scanner provides photographers and other imaging specialists with even better tools and flexibility to automatically create high-quality scanned images.

"We are very pleased to add the quality features available in Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE3 to our latest film scanner, the PF3650PRO3," says J. Lynn Chow, sales & senior product manager for Pacific Image Electronics. "By incorporating products such as Digital ICE3 into our line of film scanners, Pacific Image Electronics continues its mission to provide a full-range of products for the consumer, prosumer and professional photography and imaging markets at reasonable prices."

Additional Applied Science Fiction products incorporated into the new PF3650PRO3 film scanner include Digital ROC™, which restores and balances color, and Digital GEM™, which eliminates grain clumping and graininess, resulting in sharp and clear images.

Expanded Technical Features Extend Film Scanner Product Line
The PF3650PRO3 operates at 3600 dpi optical resolution, 16-bits per channel with a total output image of 48-bits, which allows users to enlarge images up to 36" x 24". Even at this size, images are substantially sharper than those obtained from flatbed scanners as PF3650PRO3's design eliminates the need to scan through a piece of image-distorting glass and allows the sensor to be closer to the scanning target.

Its ability to record the full range of brightness, from absolute black darkness (0.0) to full white brightness (4.0) is at the professional level of 3.4 (versus the typical 3.0 found in most flatbed scanners).

The PF3650PRO3 includes IEEE 1394, USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 interfaces for fast scanning speeds. Easy installation procedures allow the user to begin scanning and storing crystal clear images quickly to hard disk, zip drive, CD-R, CD-RW or any other storage media. Auto focus and automatic film loading features makes the scanning process easier and quicker.

The PF3650PRO3 is compatible with Adobe Photoshop and other popular image editors.

The unit weighs just 4.85 pounds and measures 9.37" x 4.05" x 6.96". Connection is via IEEE 1394 or USB port to any Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows 2000 or Mac OS version 8.6 or later system equipment with a USB or IEEE 1394 solution (OS X will be updated later on the company's Web site). Users may choose either Twain compliant for their PC system or plug-in for their Macintosh.

The PF3650PRO3 will preview at the upcoming PMA 2003 to be held in Las Vegas Convention Center March 2 - 5, 2003.

The PF3650PRO3 will launch in late March, 2003 with an MSRP of $599.99, making it the lowest priced film scanner with Digital ICE3 and 3600 dpi optical resolution on the market today.
