New HelpDesk OSP Embeds E-mail Images in SharePoint List Items
With HelpDesk OSP a ticket means a list item at a SharePoint or Office Live site, since that is was the application lets you do ‒ convert e-mails to list items. Any list may be used, and the list can be customized just like all other SharePoint lists. Different e-mails can also be directed to different lists. Therefore HelpDesk OSP is a very versatile tool for issue tracking and user support.
HelpDesk OSP is especially useful for a team that is distributed to different places or when members work away from office. It can be used with Outlook Web Access as well as with Outlook, and even the e-mail threading works in OWA too. When the e-mail threading is enabled, all e-mails concerning the same case are added to the first ticket, where they are saved chronologically and easily can be reviewed and commented on by all staff.
The application can be left running on a server, where it converts e-mails to tickets automatically and around the clock. You may also convert the e-mails manually, just by pressing a button, or create new tickets when the information does not come from an e-mail.
A Settings form in Outlook handles the connection between Outlook and SharePoint/Office Live, and the admin configures it for all subsequent users. If the other users do not want to use OWA but their own Outlook, they install HelpDesk OSP and select the list(s). All settings made by the admin will then be applied. The login details to the SharePoint site can be saved, and the password is encrypted for best security.
When HelpDesk OSP has been used for a while performance can be studied in the powerful integrated statistics tool, OLAP Reporting Tool. That way the application also facilitates business intelligence. With this new update also the statistics tool is updated to a version that fully supports Unicode and therefore may be used with all languages.
