Lingoproz language services directory now online – New features coming soon

Cape Town, 13 March. Following last month's announcement to bridge the language barrier in Africa, Lingoproz have now gone live with the continent's only online platform for language professionals. They thanked all new members for "the phenomenal response even prior to the official launch" and said this emphasised the need to make language services accessible online to the African market.

Despite the importance attached to language services, this part of the African economy has so far been underrepresented on the Internet, making it difficult to find help when the need arises. Yet the site's main interface now provides a fast and simple search to lead visitors to the right language professionals in only a few steps. Services offered range from translations, interpreting and teaching to editing, proofreading, copywriting, voiceovers or even accent and dialect coaching. The system so far caters for more than 80 languages, with a focus on African native tongues. The broad range is expected to grow even further as the service provider base expands.

While the specialized directory is a one-of-a-kind opportunity for experts in the linguistics field to attract new business, Lingoproz are also extending the "backstage" section to build an interactive community platform for service providers. User accounts not only allow language professionals to offer their services to the public, but also open up the possibility of sharing knowledge, thoughts and information with colleagues while keeping up-to-date with developments in the sector. Lingoproz said they have pulled out all the stops aiming to add a terminology forum this very month, which will give members a platform to discuss and assist each other with tricky vocabulary.

Further features to be launched shortly include e.g. a calendar of events in the region, an index of resources, and a magazine with language-related articles in the broadest sense. Language professionals are invited to submit articles and share their thoughts and findings with the community. The magazine will include a variety of categories from academic to humorous, promising an interesting read for anyone passionate about language.
