Lektora Inc. announces Lektora for Firefox and Internet Explorer
New aggregator enables remarkably easy reading of RSS feeds directly within the browser
Montreal -- January 11, 2005 Lektora Inc. today announced Lektora, a news aggregator that enables remarkably easy reading of web site news feeds directly within the web browser. Seamlessly integrated with both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and offering an intuitive user interface and highly polished aesthetic, Lektora makes it simple to subscribe to, read, and manage web log and news site feeds within the familiar web browser environment without sacrificing performance. A free pre-release version of Lektora is available today from www.lektora.com.
Lektora offers a number of powerful and convenient features including:
- Simple browser integration -- Lektora adds a new button on the browser toolbar. In one click, Lektora gathers news from user-selected news sites and weblogs and presents the information in a familiar journal approach, very similar to reading a newspaper directly within the browser.
- Easier feed subscription -- Subscribing to RSS feeds is a breeze with Lektora which features support for automatically discovering feeds in the popular RSS and Atom formats, transparent subscription from XML buttons clicked in web pages and a built-in directory featuring hundreds of popular feeds arranged by category.
- Information filtering -- Lektora offers a fast feed-wide search capability, highlighting search results in all corresponding feeds. Searches can be bookmarked, making it possible to filter your news to overcome information overload.
- Automatic feed management -- Each time you refresh your feeds, Lektora presents you with only the latest news items, conveniently saving older news items in a daily archive that can be consulted at a later time.
Lektora represents a quantum leap in the RSS feed browsing experience, removing the complexity associated with competing products, and lets users spend more time actually reading their feeds said Jean-François Nadeau, founder of Lektora Inc. By simplifying feed subscriptions and automatically managing feed updates and archives, Lektora delivers on the promise of the personal publishing paradigm introduced by web logs with a tool that makes it easy to browse the thousands of weblog and news feeds that are appearing every day.
Availability
Lektora is currently available in beta for free and can be downloaded (1.7MB) from www.lektora.com. Lektora currently requires Firefox 1.0 or Internet Explorer 6 running on Windows XP/98/ME/2000, with support for other computing platforms currently under consideration. Upon completion of the beta test period, the final version of Lektora will be made available for purchase online at a competitive price.
