In offering Watson as a free download on the company's website, Intellext is responding to the strong consumer demand it heard following the September 2005 announcement of Watson 2.0's availability as an MSN Search Toolbar with Windows Desktop Search Add-In. Before today, only business users willing to pay for the licensed version were able to put Watson to work. With this wider release, the company is set to challenge the traditional thinking that you need a search box to find information. To Watson, the search box becomes nothing more than a middle man between you and the information you need. The "Shopping" tab that appears in the product's self-refreshing sidebar automatically finds and displays current eBay and Amazon listings, including eBay's "Buy it Now" opportunities, for items similar to what the shopper is looking at on the Internet.
In both the free Watson and the licensed Watson Professional, user privacy is respected. Intellext does not receive information about what the user is looking at, and does not track the links clicked, or the pages viewed.
