InstallAware Delivers Setup Compression without Conversion.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 11 2006 -- InstallAware Software Corporation today announced the release of Setup Squeezer, an intelligent application to recompress Windows Installer (MSI) and InstallShield (EXE) setups using the most advanced algorithms available today. With LZMA compression technology, and BCJ2 compression pre-processing, Setup Squeezer is able to make already-compressed setups smaller by an additional 15% to 50%. For instance, Setup Squeezer for Windows Installer reduces Microsoft's Windows Defender MSI setup down to 3.2MB from 6.5MB.
Companies such as Adobe and Apple already use post-build compression tools to reduce the size of their InstallShield setups, in order to reduce bandwidth usage, cut costs, and improve the user experience. However, existing solutions such as FEAD or Allume can work at a substantial disadvantage with regard to compression rates, may not offer trial downloads, or they create packages that run on only the newest Windows versions, locking many potential users out of product evaluations.

Setup Squeezer improves on existing setup-compression tools by offering a very simple wizard interface that helps you intelligently unpack and repackage existing setups, with runtime support for all versions of Windows from Windows 95 to Windows Vista, using an extraction process that the user can abort, while running with as little as 32MB of physical memory. Previously compressed packages and nested setups, which cripple compression utilities like WinZip, are recursively scanned, opened, and automatically recompressed.
In addition to providing users with rapid downloads through advanced package compression -- up to 5x better than ZIP, CAB, RAR, or SITX formats -- Setup Squeezer also reduces user frustration during the software install by providing rapid unpacking. Plus, time-sensitive developers realize significant time savings, when running Setup Squeezer on dual-core and hyper-threaded machines.
Setup Squeezer is available in two versions -- Setup Squeezer for Windows Installer and Setup Squeezer for InstallShield, each priced at $299, from www.installaware.com and through a network of authorized resellers and distributors worldwide. Unrestricted 30 day trial versions are available for download and testing on setup packages right now on your desktop, without having to deliver any project files to a third-party for compression.
Setup Squeezer enables software developers to take advantage of InstallAware's industry-leading package compression without having to migrate their Windows Installer or InstallShield project to the InstallAware development environment.
