Network Assistant, highly praised by the ZDNet editors, is a real find for any system administrator responsible for managing of small to midsize networks. In addition to instant messaging capabilities, the program offers channel-based chat (great when multiple teams have to discuss different projects simultaneously), file exchange/sharing with option to resume transfers, whiteboard feature, message board (billboard) feature and remote PC control/monitoring options.
Chat and instant messaging can function in different modes general (regular), announcer (one person sends the same message to multiple recipients), password-protected chat and private communication (one-to-one). Strong encryption prevents data from being intercepted. The whiteboard feature is great for brainstorming or collaboration between teams and individuals that are located in different remote locations. Unlike other instant messaging titles, Network Assistant allows users to show screenshots of their PC desktop or programs they are running to others. This option is very helpful when discussing elements of design or when providing tech support remotely.
In addition, Network Assistant comes with a huge number of handy extras that other instant messaging software does not offer. Among these are message board with avatars support, remote clipboard viewing, option to launch/terminate network processes remotely, online PC use statistics reporting, remote alerts triggered by a specified action and much more.
