Ottawa, Canada August 28, 2004 -- In the News
The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT), a division of the Department of Homeland Security, recommends switching to an alternative browser, such as Firefox.

firefoxie.net helps new users of the Firefox web browser get up to speed fast and add features to make it a comfortable transition from Internet Explorer. Normally, you can't find all of this information at one website.

Do security advisories in the news about Internet Explorer concern you? Have you ever had your home page changed without your permission? Do you find yourself constantly using a program to scan your computer for spyware? Tired of pop-ups? Do you wish your browser displayed pages faster? Have you tried to change browsers, but missed features you were used to? Do you wish you didn't need the overhead and time wasted by all the above? If you answered "yes" to any of the above you will love firefoxie.net.

Security
Access to web security has never been easier. Simply type "about:config" without the quotes into the browser address bar and have access to browser security settings that are usually reserved for programmers.

Pop-ups
Pop-ups are off by default. If the page has pop-ups, a tiny icon appears in the lower left hand corner of the browser. If you decide you want the pop-ups, you can double-click on the icon and enable them for that specific web page.

Googlebar with Page Rank
For users of the Internet Explorer based Google Toolbar there is good news! Now there is a Google toolbar with a Page Rank indicator available for Firefox. At firefoxie.net you can install both Googlebar and PRGooglebar in one easy step. This will be a welcome addition for webmasters.

New Amazing Google Mail (Gmail)
With the Gmail composer extension and the Gmail alerter, you can see it easily replacing the Internet Exlorer/Outlook combo. Click a mailto link and the "compose" screen appears right in the browser. Click another and you are back where you were. Slick.

Flash
To install flash, simply go to a page containing flash and click on the graphic install link that comes up. It installs flawlessly.

It doesn't sound revolutionary, but what you have is a product that is getting more chiseled, cut, polished and cosmetically "finished" than any other browser contender has ever been. The question isn't whether you like Internet Explorer or not. The question is, is there something that can reasonably replace it?

"Between spyware and BHO's(browser helper objects) changing my home page on a regular basis, I was getting annoyed with Internet Explorer. I did not like Firefox at first except for the speed of rendering. For me there were too many things in Internet Explorer that I was used to using to consider switching over. So I decided to see what could be done to Firefox to make it more familiar like Internet Explorer."

"Now I can honestly say I have the "feel" of Internet Explorer without all of the intrusive problems. I haven't run a spyware checker for a while now, and my home page never changes. I hope you enjoy firefoxie.net. I think that you will agree, "The Internet is Fun Again!"
