DigitalCustom Co-Founder Is Recognized For Advanced Animation Work To Assist Surgeons

DigitalCustom Group, Inc. congratulates co-founder Dr. Barnabas Takacs on development of software that helps plastic surgeons minimize surgical disfigurement

San Francisco, CA January 23 2004--DigitalCustom Group, Inc. congratulated Dr. Barnabas Takacs, DigitalCustom’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, and Digital Elite Inc., on recent recognition of their groundbreaking work in the development of software that helps plastic surgeons plan sensitive surgical procedures to minimize or avoid facial disfigurement.

A January 2004 article in New Scientist magazine entitled “Facial Modelling Software Finds the Kindest Cut,” featured the use of Digital Elite’s technologies to help plastic surgeons develop incision strategies to avoid disfigurement from surgery on sensitive areas of the face. The featured technique combines Digital Elite’s 3-D facial modeling capabilities with patient-specific data obtained by physicians through standard pre-operative MRI scans of the patient’s face. Digital Elite’s technology was initially developed for the entertainment and advertising industries, as part of a research and development initiative to create life-like computer-generated characters.

DigitalCustom’s President, Jeffrey Makoff, said “The work of our co-founder Dr. Takacs and Digital Elite is important on many levels. The uses of digital animation, automated real-time image processing and editing technologies go far beyond entertainment. Innovation in this area is now driven by public recognition that digital imaging can improve people’s lives in very tangible ways. Health care, historical archiving and cross-cultural communication are only a few examples.”
