Data Recovery Company Warns about Computer Vulnerability; Microsoft Issues Out-Of-Band Security Patches
These unscheduled releases are known as "out-of-band" patches. The release date for the patches was rushed forward when internet attacks were discovered that exploited vulnerabilities corrected by the patches. “People don’t know just how vulnerable their computers really are during an attack of this magnitude. Un-patched computers are likely to contract a virus or some kind of malware within this period, ultimately leading to a crashed computer,” says Michael Blace, Support Manager.
Microsoft's need to release an occasional out-of-band patch is perhaps inevitable, and the company delivered the two IE patches quickly. However, two high-profile, out-of-band releases within two months might be signaling a bad trend. Selkie Software helps people prepare for the worst and is urging people to have a reliable data recovery program on hand. “It is very important to have a backup plan when something like this is plaguing computers everywhere. Our software helps you respond to computer crashes quickly and easily,” says Judi Tyabji Wilson, CEO.
Eventually, Windows will automatically update your computer and protect it, however you are vulnerable until that happens. “I don’t personally check for updates on the Microsoft website. In fact, I usually wait until the updates install themselves on my computer. I think many people are the same way, and that puts us all in danger,” says Jackie Renton, Affiliate Manager.
There is no technical fix for this danger. Users have to keep up on the latest security news and visit www.update.microsoft.com as soon as they hear about any out-of-band patches, rather than waiting for Automatic Updates to kick in. Tugboat Enterprises urges users to go to their website www.SelkieSoftware.com and find out what you can do to protect yourself from losing your data.
Selkie Software is do-it-yourself, reliable, inexpensive, real-time data recovery software. It requires no technical knowledge and runs independent of the Windows Operating System. Features that set it apart from the rest include its “Smart File Finding” technology and the ability to place all data on another computer in the exact order it was before. The “real time” capabilities allow the user to extract data from a broken machine up to the second their computer crashed with no previous backup needed.
The newest product Selkie Freedom allows a user to push data from a broken computer onto a USB key allowing it to be 2nd computer and network independent. Visit www.SelkieFreedom.com to find out more.
