Password verification has been added for customers who have signed up with their financial institution to be part of the program. The new technology requires cardholders who have signed up with the Verified By Visa program through their financial institution (See here: http://www.visa.ca/verified/consumer/index.cfm) to enter a secret password to complete online purchases at Bytewize Computers (as well as other leaders in the area of e-commerce shopping). This password, similar to a pin number for debit cards, is known only by the cardholder, virtually eliminating the possibility of fraudulent purchases with your card at Bytewize Computers or any other online retailer who has implemented the Verified By Visa technology. The password is verified directly with Visa through a secure 128-bit encrypted channel that is an additional and separate 128-bit communications channel to the one used at Bytewize Computers. Because the verification is completed directly with Visa in a specially designed and separate browser window there is no opportunity for anyone to view the password, including the merchant you are purchasing from. The Verified by Visa password is never read, recorded, or stored anywhere during the transaction. Now that is security at its best!
