Auriga contributes to success of Software Development Summit 2008 in St. Petersburg, Russia
Now in its eighth year, the summit has become a major international forum that brings together all major Russian players in both licensed software and software development outsourcing services sectors, as well as buyers of global IT services, industry analysts, potential clients and investors from around the globe. This year, the industry’s key annual event featured an impressive line-up of industry visionaries from around the globe, government top officials and representatives of the Russian software development community. Keynote speakers at the summit included Peter Schumacher, President & CEO, Value Leadership Group Inc.; Alec Miloslavsky, CEO of Exigen Services, Co-founder of Genesys; Ilya Ponomarev, Chairman of the High-Tech Subcommittee, State Duma, Russia.
The annual RUSSOFT study, presented at the summit, revealed that the Russian software development market continued to grow aggressively and exceeded $5 billion in 2007, while the software exports from Russia demonstrated a 45% year-on-year growth rate and amounted to over $2 billion. According to RUSSOFT President Valentin Makarov, the industry may become the major driving force behind innovation in the nation’s economic development. The government incentives for the IT industry were highlighted by Russian MP Ilya Ponomarev. He focused on the state innovation policy to be implemented through a set of laws which need to take into account the interests of the key IT market players.
The possible winning scenarios for Russian offshore IT services firms in the new competitive paradigm of European IT services were unveiled by Peter Schumacher, President and CEO of Value Leadership Group. The future of Russia’s software and services industry and the forecast till 2010 were outlined by Alec Miloslavsky, CEO of Exigen Services.
Auriga President Dr Alexis Sukharev moderated the summit’s panel discussion on Russia’s place in IT globalization. The session that featured Peter Schumacher, Siegfried Langer of IBM, and Igor Agamirzyan of EMC, looked into challenges and opportunities of developing software in Russia. The issues addressed gained a lot of attention from the panel attendees who engaged in stimulating discussion with a lot of valid points.
"It was truly a pleasure to participate in this year’s premier industry event,” said Alexis Sukharev, Auriga CEO and founder. “The 2008 Summit was a success, with participants enthusiastic about the interactive, in-depth presentations and panel discussions, and appreciative of the networking opportunities. We shared ideas, compared notes, and, generally, pooled our experience and wisdom to sum up lessons learned and frame the future. The 2008 forum was a step above the previous years, especially with respect to the industry trends analysis and the keynote speakers’ presentations. I’m convinced this event will give a further impetus to the Russian software and services industry which is poised to play an important role in the nation’s economic growth,” he added.
