With this in mind, Alphalogix developed the Versona Instant Messaging System (VIMS) which drastically lowers the cost of deploying and maintaining an instant messaging infrastructure without sacrifice to capabilities or features. The Versona Instant Messaging System completely eliminates the cost of client side deployment. A client simply connects to a web page for initial setup, and the client software is set up automatically using Java Webstart technology from Sun Microsystems. The client side maintenance costs are also eliminated because the client software is automatically updated to the current server version each time the user access the IM system. As a result, all maintenance and updates are done on the server, behind the scenes, and without interruption to an employees work day.
For corporations who plan on implementing an enterprise instant messaging system, a major concern is the complexity and cost of deployment, maintenance and end user support. As an example, with most other IM systems, a firm with hundreds of employees would experience significant costs in loading client-side software manually on each users PC.
