ACT/Technico now offers complete VMEbus-based "boot and go" application SBC solution that provides significant time savings
June 3, 2004 -- ACT/Technico (www.acttechnico.com), a leading supplier of integrated real-time and embedded systems built with CompactPCI, VMEbus, and other open architecture platforms, announces the AppliPak, a complete VMEbus based Boot and Go application single board computer (SBC) solution.
The AppliPak is an integrated SBC, incorporating a customer-selected operating system, that provides significant time savings to the user. The basic AppliPak consists of a PowerPC-® or Pentium®-based VMEbus SBC preloaded with VxWorks®, Windows® or Linux®, and OS-specific device drivers. By specifying integrated mass storage, transition modules, and other accessories, the customer receives a fully-tested integrated embedded SBC solution ready to execute user applications. In addition to the broad range of user-defined parameters, the AppliPak is available in standard or ruggedized versions.
An AppliPak solution shaved weeks off our development time, simply by having device drivers that worked when we received the boards, said James Westwell, Software Project Engineer at Kollmorgen. The ability to add ruggedization as part of the solution has the added benefit of significant time savings for our process.
The standard AppliPak version bundles a single board computer from Motorola Computer Group or Concurrent Technologies with VxWorks or Linux; boot file and drivers; choice of mass storage devices, and other options such as Transition Modules or Break Out Boards (BoBs), Ethernet, and Built-In Self Test (MBIT) with a web-based GUI interface. Motorola®-based AppliPaks are available for MVME51xx, MVME5500, and the new MVME6100. Pentium-based AppliPaks are shipping with Intel ® Pentium® III low power and Intel Pentium M processors. The Rugged AppliPak includes the same options, but adds extended operating temperature range, conformal coating, and/or parts lifecycle management, as required by the customer. Each AppliPak SBC solution is fully tested before shipment.
