A Concept Long Overdue

There is a better way to organize and control everything people use their computers to accomplish, using a new system of software and methods customized for the individual.

Olathe, Kansas January 27, 2004-- ready for an easier way to manage your computer? An Olathe Kansas software company called BHO Technologists – LittleTek Center has announced an innovative new service based on what they call “Purpose Based Computing.”

When the word “easy” is used with anything associated with computers, users everywhere begin to shudder, and immediately start to think, “I have heard that before, and I am still trying to figure it out!” Believe it or not, this time there may be something to what these guys have cooked up to make life easier for anyone who wants to make the headache of operating a PC more bearable.

The idea behind “Purpose Based Computing” is to focus on tasks users want to do, and to move them to a different kind of operating paradigm that uses a more direct, human purpose based approach to everything people use their computers to accomplish. Most small scale systems are set up to require users to understand the underlying infrastructure of the system, and base all their decisions around organization of software brands, files, and directories. To accomplish the work that is done on computers, people must know the name of the software they use for any given task, how to locate it, how to activate it, and how to use it once they find it. “Purpose Based Computing” allows people to define the tasks they use their machines to accomplish, and control those tasks by individual purpose, without having to search for software names, files, and directories to get the work done.

BHO Technologists have devised a strategy for organizing system utilization at a level that is easier for users to embrace. Using a system of methods and software, users can now configure their computer systems to accomplish tasks by directly accessing the tools they need, according to the purpose they have in mind. For example, when someone wants to send email to a friend, they can perform this task with a direct command, based on calling up “email,” or by typing a command like “John Doe email.” With these types of commands, the software configured to send the email is automatically identified, accessed, and activated, leaving the user to type in a message and hit the send button. Access to websites can be a simple as typing the command PRWeb, to access the web browsing software, connect, and be taken directly to the desired URL automatically. Use of the entire computer system can be organized in this simple command based fashion, all without any searching for programs, files, or directories. Better still; the system is completely adaptable to the whims of the individual user.

John Dir, Director of Software Concepts for BHO Technologists puts the idea this way, “It just seems reasonable that people should be able to tell a computer what they want to do in their own words, and get the machine to respond. Creating a system for doing this is much easier than people think, and we are willing to hold their hand until they get the hang of what’s going on. When I send an email to somebody, I don’t tell them they can expect an Outlook from me; why should my computer wait for me to tell it to find and start Outlook?”

Another benefit of organizing computers to respond on a purpose based approach is that a single defined task can activate multiple tools needed to do the work. One command can find and access multiple programs, documents, websites, and emails to save a great deal of time in performing routine tasks, eliminating much of the required human interaction left to users of the brand name, file, and directory based system of organization. Now here is a novel concept, making machines think more like people instead of people thinking more like machines. Is it possible somebody finally got it right?
