As few people know, when you print a document in modern versions of Windows, you translate the document to GDI/DDI (aka Graphics Device Interface/Device Driver Interface). Now, Vista PDF Creator generates a PDF document from that sequence and lets you save it as a regular file. Thus, the conversion is done for you on the fly.

To an application, the Vista PDF Creator looks like a printer and allows the application to write a document as a PDF Document in the same way it would print the document to the printer. When a user prints their document to Vista PDF Creator, rather than sending the file to a printer, the software creates a PDF Document.
