ImBatch 5.3.1

"Batch image conversion and processing tool."

Overview

Image files come in various file types, some of the most common ones being JPEG, BMP and GIF. Each one has its own properties and depending on the kind of use you might want to convert your files to another format. One of the tools to do that is ImBatch, a convenient program that can convert many images between several different formats in batches and has quite many other features.

Installation

Run the installer, select language for the wizard, follow a few steps and then wait for the main installation process to finish. That’s it, there are no advanced difficult settings you need to configure or something that requires advanced technical knowledge.

Don’t worry about viruses and spyware as the program is fully clean from any type of malware. It’s also clean from additional advertised software too.

ImBatch works without problems under Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.

Interface

The program has an extremely stylish interface that is really attractive and modern. It has cool graphics and its design is particularly interesting. The main window has the ImBatch logo at the top left corner and next to it are two buttons, Tools and Configuration. Below is the toolbar with 4 buttons: Start conversion process, Load saved tasks, Save current task and Show preview pane. The rest of the window is divided into two panes; the left one has a list of all imported images and the right pane has a list of all operations you want to perform on them. If you enable the preview pane then it will be shown below the image list pane.

Pros

First of all, the intuitive interface of the program has all of its features organized and makes it easy for all users to get familiar with it. Then, you have the power to process imported images in many ways. In fact, the image processing functions are categorized into tasks: Annotate, Colors, Effects, Save, Transform, Tags and Other. Those categories include different types of image processing features; for example, from the Annotate category you can add watermark and watermark text, from the Colors category you can adjust brightness, contrast, white balance and colors, convert colors, etc. and from the Effects category you can add a frame, Gaussian blur, motion blur or sharpen the images.

One of the main features of the program is that you can convert the images to a vast variety of formats: GIF, JPEG, PCX, BMP, ICO, PNGTGA, PXM, DCX, PSD, Camera RAW, Kodak PCD, Kodak Cineon, Matlab, Apple PICT and many more.

Currently there are 5 more skins other than the main one.

For some reason the program crashed at some point, but the error reporting feature is very advanced and useful. You rarely see that in a software.

Cons

Well, the program did crash once.

Alternatives

Other than ImBatch, you could use IrfanView (free), which is more of a viewer but does have a lot of processing features. A few other software are FastStone Image Viewer (paid), Phatch (free, Linux) and nConvert (paid).

Conclusion

When it comes to image processing, ImBatch is one of the most complete and easy to use software available.
