"Establish secure direct connections to PC's"
Hamachi is a package to create virtual networks whenever they are needed in order to connect to any PCs on that network. The software provides a remote connection ability which is useful when needing to access corporate PCs at different business locations or for people who work on their home and business PC and need to share access to files. A wide range of devices can be used with Hamachi including PCs, network printers, game consoles, digital cameras, and more. These can all be connected to as long as both the client and the device are both on the net at the time.
The connection when using Hamachi is not likely to be completely smooth. Mouse movements will not be fluid and most likely will lag at times. Therefore, a little bit of patience is needed when using this sort of remote connection. However, with Hamachi the user can access the virtual network to remotely connect successfully with a wide variety of devices which can be extremely useful.
User access can be controlled from a central gateway where permissions can be granted or rescinded depending on the situation. Therefore, a departing employee can have their network access privileges revoked quite easily. Remote users can also be granted access to specific computers on the network that they need to complete their assignments, while keeping other devices off limits. Alternatively, all devices can be connected in a mesh configuration so that they are all able to access devices on the mesh network. There is a limit of 256 devices per LogMeIn user ID.
256-bit SSL encryption is used on both public and private networks to ensure that all communication and access is fully protected.
The installation went fine with no difficulties. No malicious software was added or offered during the setup process.
The package requires Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 or 8 (32-bit or 64-bit)
A LogMeIn ID is required for newer versions of Hamachi. The software will attempt to update. Then it will present a login window for LogMeIn and an option to create a new account for that system.
There is also a second window with the options to Create a network or Join an existing network.
The main interface offers a menu with options for System, Network, Manage, and Help. Any networks that are configured are also shown in categories with any devices that are part of that network shown below within that section. Devices that are connected have a green light to the left of the device name.
- Create several types of virtual networks
- Connect to individual PCs or use a mesh network where all devices can access all other devices within the mesh
- See the devices grouped by network type
- View which devices are logged in
- Uses LogMeIn network
- New LogMeIn user account is required to access the software
Hamachi is a good remote access software package that offers greater flexibility with several types of network access and a simple interface.
