"Bandwidth meter, monitor, traffic controller."

Overview

It is a known fact that the average user isn’t too acquainted with traffic monitoring tools. However, when an emergency takes you by surprise, and emergencies usually do this, a bandwidth monitoring tool can be very helpful in figuring out the needed solution. BWMeter is more than just a bandwidth meter, as it boasts a lot of additional and useful features that you will love! All the traffic from and to your computer is measured, displayed and controlled by this tool. You can also use it for traffic control. This quick article will give you more information about the BWMeter and the features it provides.

Installation

With the size of its setup kit, barely measuring 1Mb, you can tell straight away that we are dealing with an ultra lightweight tool that boasts a fast, smooth and straightforward installation. Novice users will feel at home with the simplicity, as the installation will not pose them any problems. Every operating system from Windows 2000 onwards is supported, and in terms of specs, don’t worry, because you don’t need a fancy PC in order to run it. You should be happy to find out that BWMeter doesn’t come with adware, spyware or other programs bundled with it.

Interface

Sporting a simple and easy to use interface, BWMeter is a tool with two sides: one for novice users and another one for network administrators or advanced users. It is an easy to configure software product with a rich set of options and features available to its users. The intuitive interface makes sure that you will not encounter any problems monitoring the network traffic on your PC as well as accomplishing the usual administrative tasks.

Pros

As stated before, the monitoring of bandwidth usage on your PC is the main goal of BWMeter. But, unlike other products, it has plenty more features that distinguish it from them. For example, the data packets (where they go, where they come from, which port and protocol they use) can be analyzed. This feature is extremely useful for network administrators because they need to know the difference between Internet and local traffic. Another useful feature of BWMeter is represented by the fact that you can control the network traffic. A speed limit can be set for all kinds of connections. In addition, by using BWMeter you can also restrict access to certain websites. Parents will love it! BWMeter monitors all network connections. In this category fall: LAN network connections, internet network connections, and VPN connections. All computers in your network will have their own statistics showing you the amount of LAN traffic, such as download and upload.

Cons

The interface, despite its functionality, isn’t at all attractive. As a result, the skin should be worked upon.

Alternatives

Let’s have a quick look at some of the traffic monitoring tools out there. Some alternatives to BWMeter include: NetSpeedMonitor, FreeMeter, NetLimiter 2 Monitor to name but a few.

Conclusion

Overall, the efficiency and ease of use of BWMeter make it a very good tool for both casual and advanced users.
