"Binfer transfers your data directly. No cloud"

Overview

Binfer is a file sharing tool that can be used to ensure that files are transferred to other users in a safe environment. The software is designed to send file transfers across the internet, directly between users, rather than using "the cloud" to do so.

The software encodes all files that are transferred so that even if they are intercepted during transmission, the files will not be readable or accessible. The files are decoded on the other end by the second user's Binfer client.

Files can be selected and then simply drag and dropped over to the application and dropped in. The package can handle any number of files at the same time and they can be any size needed. The software breaks down the file transfer into encrypted bytes of information to make them easier to transfer and correct any transmission errors that might occur.

One of the advantages of the software is that unlike email, it does not restrict the size of the files being transferred. This puts the software one step ahead of most cloud storage systems that limit file sizes depending on the current storage plan and email accounts which also limit receipt of emails with file attachments above certain sizes.

No internet web addresses (URLs) are needed with this program as it is entirely file based from user to user.

The speed of the file transfers depends on the respective speeds of the sender's and receiver's internet connection, plus how it travels across the internet in between the two locations.

Installation

The installation completed without any issues.

There was no adware, toolbars, spyware or malware included with the setup package.

Binfer requires Windows OS.

Interface

The interface has an interesting design. There is a full row of toolbar buttons at the top with cute icons with each one depicting its individual function. These are for New, Contacts, Transfers, Settings, Reports, and Exit. There is also a button in the top-right corner which lights up green color when online with Binfer.

A tabbed navigation is shown below with two tabs for In and Out.

User and system messages are shown below this. With user, there are many small icons to select email and other actions for each contact.

The interface is fairly basic but it is effective.

Pros

  • Send files between users
  • Encrypt file transfer user to user

RetroShare is a secure chat and file sharing tool that provides an alternative way to share files between users.

Conclusion

Binfer is a handy and secure file transfer system from one user to another with unrestricted file sizes.
