"Bind Compress Protect files"

Overview

nBinder is most useful for software developers. It can take a series of files and executables and pack them into its own self-extracting executable file. This self-extracting file can execute a file stored within the package at the same time like a setup program.

Typically with a file archive like a ZIP archive, a file compression program has to “unzip” the archive first. A program like a setup.exe program has to then be launched as a separate action to begin the installation process. The advantage of the nBinder package is that the second step is removed because packages can be created that unpack and then initiate a programmed command.

Once created, the distributable executable does not need the nBinder package to access the executable file.

There is also the option to compress and bind executable files, plus bind the DLLs and resource files to the executable so that they can be distributed as a single executable package. Passwords can also be added to protect executables from improper access.

Installation

nBinder installed without any difficulties. There was no additional software included with the distribution.

nBinder requires Windows XP, Vista or 7 (32-bit and 64-bit versions supported).

Interface

The interface is fairly modern and easy to understand once you look it over.

Large Bind, Project, Global Options and Help buttons are sitting in the main toolbar. Files added are shown in the list below the toolbar.

To the right are menu options for Add files, Add folder, Add command, Add control, Remove, File options, and Folder options.

An icon can be selected from a file where it is embedded and used within a binded package.

The executable file output can be pre-selected to a designated folder.

Pros

  • Single executable can de-compress and launch a program within the previously-compressed executable package in a single action
  • Compress executables into a package to save space and distribute more safely
  • Password-protect compressed packages and make executables more tamper-proof
  • Create procedures that can be repeated with ease for times when creating new packages often
  • Bind executables, DLLs and resource files to a single executable
  • Create a self-deleting application that can only be run once post-installation

Cons

  • Executable files themselves are often look upon suspiciously because some can contain viruses
  • Windows 7 and earlier operating system versions supported

Conclusion

nBinder is a development package mainly for programmers who need to combine files or other people who wish to create a self-executing executable rather than a dumb file archive. It also has some extra features like tamper-proof executable files and self-deleting features which are also nice too.
