"Makes easier the mass file renaming"

Overview

Ant Renamer file renaming package that has a number of neat tricks up its proverbial sleeve.

Files and folders with files can be added to the file list ready for their renaming process. Renaming procedures can be run singularly or run as a batch process to save time.

There are many different ways that a single file or collection of files can be renamed. These include changing out the string, deleting characters, add MP3 ID tag information, changing the file extension, and more much. The number of specific changes that can be made is impressive here.

The inclusion of batch processing is one of the main benefits. The many ways that renaming can be setup makes it possible to configure something quite specific and then iterate through a series of folders renaming files as custom batches for rename processing. Depending on how many files there are that need renaming in this fashion, this software could potentially save a user a lot of time.

Installation

The installation required 2.7 MB to be installed fully. There were no issues when completing the setup process.

No malicious software was included with the setup package.

Ant Renamer requires Windows 98, NT4 SP4 or newer version.

Interface

The plain interface is initially quite complex with many menu items and numerous small toolbar buttons to initiate certain actions.

The file list is the main starting point. This can be accessed by clicking on the Files button near the top left of the interface. Files and folders with files can be added at any time in order to get a list of files to work with.

The Actions button to the direct right of the Files button will bring up options for many kinds of file renaming including string replacement, multiple string replacement, using MP3 tag information in a file renaming process, and much more.

The level of sophistication is high here with batch processing and different types of renaming processes bordering on Regular Expression levels.

Pros

  • Sophisticated file renaming app
  • Add files or folders with files into the file list
  • Process files as a batch
  • Many options for how to rename including string inclusions, letter case change, and even including MP3 meta data in the file name
  • Fast acting

Cons

  • Needs an intermediate or advanced user to get the most out of the this software.

Alternatives

File Renamer can rename entire folders filled with files and can also perform batch renaming procedures. The Bulk Rename Utility is also pretty good with extensive customization for how the file names will look post-renaming.

Conclusion

Ant Renamer is an excellent batch renaming package which has superior features to allow users to rename their files quickly and easily. A large number of files can be renamed using a custom rule set.
