Installation

Logitech SetPoint supports Windows® XP and Windows® Vista™.

* Standard installation
o You must be logged on with administrative privileges to install this software. Insert the Logitech SetPoint Software CD into your CD-ROM drive. The installation program should start automatically. If it does not, browse the CD and double click the file "SETUP.EXE", located in the root directory of the CD-ROM to install the software.
o Windows® Vista™:
+ If an earlier version of SetPoint software is installed on your system, we recommend you uninstall it manually. Please refer to section "Uninstall" of the this readme file for uninstallation instructions.
* Uninstall
o To uninstall the Logitech SetPoint Software from your system, follow the corresponding instructions:
+ Windows® XP: Click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon in the Windows Control Panel, select "Logitech SetPoint" and click the "Remove" button.
+ Windows® Vista™: click on the "Uninstall a Program" link in the "Programs" section of the Windows Control Panel, select "Logitech SetPoint" and click "Uninstall".

Troubleshooting - General Topics

* Compatibility with Logitech MouseWare® and previous Logitech keyboard software:
o This section is relevant to users who previously used a Logitech mouse or keyboard on their system and have installed MouseWare or previous Logitech keyboard software. If you are completely replacing your old devices with the new devices, we recommend that you uninstall MouseWare or previous Logitech keyboard software before installing SetPoint. If you are using one of your older devices and a new device on the same system, please visit our web site http://www.logitech.com for instructions on installing SetPoint along with MouseWare and previous Logitech keyboard software on your operating system. Devices that were supported by MouseWare or previous Logitech keyboard software will continue to be supported under those applications, and will not appear in the SetPoint control panel. Your new mice and keyboards will be supported by SetPoint. See section "Support for Cordless Click! Mice on Windows® XP" for Cordless Click! or Cordless Click! Plus mice, and section "Compatibility with SetPoint 5.x and the G9/G9x Laser Mouse" for the G9/G9x Laser Mouse. If you are planning to upgrade your Operating System to Windows® Vista™, it is highly recommended to uninstall MouseWare are previous Logitech keyboard software prior to performing the OS upgrade. MouseWare and previous Logitech keyboard software do not work in Windows® Vista™.
* Support for Cordless Click! Mice on Windows® XP:
o For Windows® XP users only: If you were using Logitech MouseWare with a Cordless Click! or a Cordless Click! Plus mouse, installing SetPoint on top of MouseWare will transfer control of your mouse from MouseWare to SetPoint. MouseWare will no longer recognize your mouse. If you were using one of these mice with MouseWare, you can now uninstall MouseWare and use SetPoint.
* Compatibility with SetPoint 5.x and the G9/G9x Laser Mouse:
o The G9/G9x Laser Mouse is only supported with SetPoint 5.x. SetPoint 5.x is compatible with other versions of SetPoint, however the following should be noted when installing or removing SetPoint. If SetPoint 5.x is installed on your system and you wish to install an earlier version of SetPoint (version 4.20 or earlier), you must uninstall SetPoint 5.x before installing the earlier version of SetPoint. Once the earlier version has been installed, you can reinstall SetPoint 5.x. Be sure and back up all profiles or macros you created with SetPoint 5.x to another directory before uninstalling SetPoint 5.x. If you have SetPoint 5.x and an earlier version of SetPoint (version 4.20 or earlier) installed on your system and you wish to remove the earlier version of SetPoint, you must uninstall SetPoint 5.x before uninstalling the earlier version of SetPoint. Once the earlier version has been removed, you can reinstall SetPoint 5.x. Be sure and back up all profiles or macros you created with SetPoint 5.x to another directory before uninstalling SetPoint 5.x.

Troubleshooting - Mouse Topics

* Cordless 2.4 GHz Mouse loses connection:
o If your 2.4 GHz Cordless Mouse gets disconnected, go to the SetPoint folder on your hard drive (e.g. C:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint) and double-click the file "Connect.exe". You can also download the connect utility at http://www.logitech.com/downloads. Follow the connect utility instructions on your screen.
o If your Cordless Mouse uses a Logitech Unifying receiver, go to "Start-> Programs -> Logitech -> Unifying -> Logitech Unifying Software". Follow the instructions on your screen. For more information go to http://www.logitech.com/unifying.

Troubleshooting - MX 5500 Desktop Bluetooth Topics

* Connecting the MX 5500 Desktop:
o In order to get started with your MX 5500 desktop, please follow the instructions in the Quick Start Guide included in your product package.
* Using the Logitech USB Bluetooth Mini-Receiver in its Default Mode:
o In the default mode, the Logitech USB Bluetooth mini-receiver must be plugged into a free USB port. In this mode, the MX 5500 keyboard and the MX Revolution Bluetooth mouse are the only devices connected to the mini-receiver, and the Bluetooth hub functionality is disabled.This mode works on any computer at any time! Logitech recommends staying in the default mode.
* Using the Logitech USB Bluetooth Mini-receiver as a Bluetooth Hub:
o You have the option to use the Logitech receiver provided with your MX 5500 as a Bluetooth Hub, enabling other Bluetooth devices to connect to your computer through the hub. Your computer must have a compatible Bluetooth stack installed for this mode to be functional (see the "Compatible Bluetooth Stacks" section below). Logitech does not provide a Bluetooth stack.
* How to Turn On the Bluetooth Hub:
o From the Start Menu, select All Programs -> Logitech -> Mouse and Keyboard -> Bluetooth Connection Assistant.
o Click on "Connect Other Devices" and follow the on-screen instructions.
* Connecting the Mouse and Keyboard Directly to your PC’s Integrated Bluetooth Radio:
o Logitech does not guarantee the correct functioning of the MX 5500 desktop when connected to an integrated Bluetooth radio. If you have problems, please use the Logitech USB Bluetooth Mini-Receiver in its default connection mode, with the hub functionality disabled.
* To connect the MX 5500 to your PC’s integrated Bluetooth radio:
o From the Start Menu, select All Programs -> Logitech -> Mouse and Keyboard -> Bluetooth Connection Assistant.
o Click on "Use Integrated Radio" and follow the on-screen instructions.
o If no link is present, the Bluetooth software installed on your computer is not compatible with SetPoint. You should use the default mode.
* Connecting the Mouse and Keyboard "Manually" to your PC’s Integrated Bluetooth Radio:
o Please read the documentation provided by the hardware manufacturer for proper instructions on how to connect a Bluetooth device.
* Returning to the Default Mode:
o If you have problems with another connection scenario, you should return to the default connection mode:
+ Make sure the Logitech USB Bluetooth Mini-Receiver provided is plugged into a free USB port.
+ From the Start Menu, select All Programs -> Logitech -> Mouse and Keyboard -> Bluetooth Connection Assistant.
+ In the Bluetooth Connection Assistant, click the "Troubleshoot Connection" button.
+ In the Troubleshooting window, click "Disable Hub" or "Use Logitech Receiver", and follow the on-screen instruction
* Compatible Bluetooth Stacks:
o The MX 5500 desktop is compatible with the following Bluetooth stacks:
+ Microsoft stack in Windows® XP Service Pack 2
+ Microsoft stack in Windows® Vista™
o Logitech does not guarantee the normal functioning of MX 5500 when the Bluetooth hub is enabled and a stack other than the ones listed above is installed. In the default mode, it does not matter which Bluetooth stack is installed.

Before installing version 4.80 of Logitech Setpoint Mouse Software for Windows make sure this is the latest version available and that it works with your current operating system and device model. If the driver contains release notes ("readme" files) proceed with reading them first. Second recommended step is creating a restore point to help you later on in case you install the wrong device driver. Note that some drivers will work instantly after installing them, but others will require a system restart in order to function properly.

As an alternative, you can simplify the process of installing the latest versions for your drivers by using a program to scan all your drivers and compare them with the latest available versions from the manufacturers.
