Codecs supported: This driver supports all VIA southbridges with integrated sound plus several audio codecs as below.

DOS sound: This driver supports DOS sound for VIA VT82C686A/VT82C686B/VT8231 southbridges only. The VIAAUDIO.COM file mentioned in the Readme concerning DOS sound can be obtained from this old audio driver package. It is no longer supplied in the Vinyl_AudioCodec driver package.

Release history: This combination driver was first published on 24 June 2002. Prior to 24 June 2002, there was driver 74mu170a for VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233C and driver 68MU220b for VT686A, 686B & VT8321. The "combo" driver combined those two drivers into the one package and added support for the (at the time) new VT8235 southbridge. Further improvements have been made in subsequent releases, including adding support for more codecs and the driver package is now called Vinyl_AudioCodec.

Special note: VIA advises that where possible, users should install onboard sound drivers provided by their motherboard manufacturer in preference to the audio drivers below.

To install the driver, save any unsaved work and close all applications then click on the driver download link. Choose the "Save File" option and save it to your folder under Windows where you file your drivers. Unzip the file. (To unzip the file right click and highlight "Extract All") Then double click on the Setup.exe file to run the installation program. Follow the prompts and restart at the end of the installation.

Before installing version 6.50d of VIA Vinyl Stylus Audio Driver for Windows make sure this is the latest version available and that it works with your current operating system and device model. If the driver contains release notes ("readme" files) proceed with reading them first. Second recommended step is creating a restore point to help you later on in case you install the wrong device driver. Note that some drivers will work instantly after installing them, but others will require a system restart in order to function properly.
