"File manager for Bluetooth OBEX File Transfer"

Overview

Sometimes it can be a real pain in the back to configure the standard Bluetooth utility installed your computer in order to work with a Bluetooth-enabled device. So if you want to try something different, check out Bluetooth File Transfer- a software that will simplify the process of managing data in any Bluetooth device that supports FTP. It is easier to use than the regular Bluetooth file transfer utility and will let you do your job without any issues.

Installation

Quick and straightforward installation without any critical settings required. The process should finish in less than a couple of minutes. No additional software is included in the setup package, and it’s completely clean from any kind of malware or spyware.

Supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista and 7. It also requires Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0 (or above) to be installed.

Interface

Launching the program will open a single window with a smooth interface that is not complex with loads of buttons and features, but rather neat and attractive. At the top it has a toolbar with a few buttons, most of which have drop-down menus: Connect, Parent Folder, Refresh, View, Options and Help. To connect to a device click “Connect”, select it from the list of found devices and connect to it. Once connected you can browse the device’s files and folders from the main window’s explorer area.

Pros

It is relatively easy to connect to any Bluetooth device. The program searches for such devices and displays a list with the results, as well as detailed information on each one. Just select the one you want to connect to and voila! You can view the device’s contents and navigate through them just like they’re part of your hard drive. Drag & Drop is also supported so that you don’t have to copy-paste data, or use other time-wasting methods. The contents of the connected device can be viewed either as large icons, small icons, tiles, list or details. A cache is kept for each device for faster loading and viewing of the contents too. A log is kept for every session with a device.

Another great advantage of this program is that it’s free!

Cons

Bluetooth File Transfer doesn’t support BroadComm/Widcomm, Toshiba and BlueSoleil drivers. Hopefully updated versions of the program will support those drivers. In addition, it still depends on Windows’ native Bluetooth utility to pair with devices.

Alternatives

Blueman (free) is a fully featured Bluetooth manager available to Linux users. It supports connecting to 3G/EDGE/GPRS via DUN profile, connecting to or creating Bluetooth networks, connecting to audio devices, sending/receiving files via OBEX and many other features that Linux users will enjoy. Bluex is an alternative for Android devices that don’t support sending/receiving files via OBEX. It should be noted that it requires root access to work.

Conclusion

Unique and very good application to ease the process of managing data between your computer and Bluetooth devices. There aren’t many alternatives for this, but even if there were it would still be one of the best.
