"Capture tons of screenshots quickly"

Overview

Screenshot Captor is a rather versatile utility that enables users with a medium to advanced technical knowhow level to take screenshots of the applications on their display. The program comes as freeware, though in order to use it you will be required to sign up on for an account on the developer’s website using your email address and confirm the account via the link you receive. A program that helps users take screenshots in a convenient and simple manner is simply a must-have nowadays. Whether you are contacting the technical support for an application or you want to share something with your friends, Screenshot Captor is the right tool for the job.

Installation

Screenshot Captor is a relatively small application (around 8.9 megabytes in total) which has been designed particularly for Windows based computers. It is compatible with operating systems such as Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista and even Windows 7. Thanks to its limited size, the installation occurs quickly and without having to perform a lot of clicking. Note that after the application itself is done, you will be prompted to create an account on the developers’ (Donationcoder) website in order to get a free license, an optional step.

Interface

The interface does not look polished, but the tools necessary for an effective screenshot capture are all there. The top part of the screen is occupied by the classical tabs and the lower part of the window is divided in three sub-sections. On the left side you will notice a list of previous screenshots you have taken using the application. The upper right sub-section of your screen is occupied by the current screenshot you have taken, with the editing tools listed on its right side. The lower right sub-section is used to preview and enter details about the screenshot currently open.

However, the interface of the Screenshot Captor is not used for anything else but image editing, as taking captures of your display is done via right clicking on the tray button and choosing what type of screenshot you want.

Pros

One of the things you will absolutely love is the ability of the utility of capturing screenshots on multi-monitors systems, without omitting anything. The images in windows that are too large to fit into the screen will be captured via the “Autoscroll” feature. When you are not using the Screenshot Captor application, it will not bother you at all, since it patiently awaits for you in the system tray bar. Thanks to its ingenious coding, you will be able to take and save a large amount of screenshots in the shortest possible time. Configuring the application once ensure that you will no longer be bothered to choose the settings for each and every screenshot you take.

In addition, the Screenshot Captor is an excellent tool for remote desktops as well, as pairing it with other applications you need has limitless possibilities. Moreover, even though it has a great number of options for highly advanced computer users, the default ones should do nicely for the medium level ones as well. After taking the screenshot, you will be able to add a plethora of effects to them. Being able to blur certain parts of an image that might reveal sensitive details regarding your accounts or passwords is a must-have feature. Lastly, once you have taken the capture, the Screenshot Captor facilitates sending it via email with its mapi or stmp protocols.

Cons

The first con regarding this application is the notification to register on the author's website. Since this application is free to begin with, customers do not really understand why registering for a six month account is necessary so a bit of clarification on this is needed. If you enter a license key, the message goes away. You can get a license key by either registering for free on the author's forum, making a small donation or building a free 1 month license on the author's site.

Considering the facts that all development for Screenshot Captor is based on donations, you have the option to build a free license, the same license works on all developer's programs, then the register message hardly seems a problem after all.

As far as the cropping feature is concerned, it could have used a bit more work, both in functionality and convenience to use. However, apart from that, there are no other downsides to this program.

Alternatives

If you are looking for an alternative to this program, then you can give the Capture-A-Screenshot, Better Screenshots or Mr. Captor applications a shot. Capture-A-Screenshot has been rated a bit better than the Screenshot-Captor due to the fact that it does not require registering an account. However, the potential of the Capture-A-Screenshot software tool is a bit lower.

Conclusion

If you do not have a problem with the registration form and you are pro-donations for worthy causes, then Screenshot Captor is the tool for you, thanks to the amazingly powerful array of features it provides for both experts and general users.
