OCRThis is a batch OCR program that leverages MicroSoft Office MODI libraries to allow quick extraction of text from single or multi-page tiff images. If features four different GUI languages and numerous output code page formats. OCRThis is optimized for use in the legal industry, where the payment of repetitive vendor per page OCR charges easily and quickly dwarfs the cost of this utility.

OCRThis can generate text files at a rate of 1-2k pages an hour. OCRThis makes sense where the rate of text file production doesn't exceed 20-40k pages in a 24 hour period. If time is not an issue, than using OCRThis for larger jobs also makes sense. Any way you look at it, if you are using a vendor, if you spent the money it costs to purchase OCRThis and spent it on per-page vendor OCR charges, you could afford about 5000 pages! It's a no-brainer purchase.

Features that make life easier for anyone used to dealing with OCR files are:

- The ability to specify the maximum number of text files per output directory.

- The ability to specify how many consective errors trigger the program to halt. This addresses the MODI library's occasional propensity to hang.

- Fire and Forget - start the process and let it run. It locates all the tiff files recursively and puts the output where you specify.

The text quality is on par with the text emitted from the market leading desktop OCR programs. MicroSoft licensed ScanSoft OCR technology from Nuance in 2001. The text is not formatted, but when used in databases for full text search purposes, this doesn't matter.
